Alan Metzler joined Dynamis in April 2017 as a Senior Principal, bringing with him over 30 years of leadership experience and national defense and homeland security expertise. Alan brings to Dynamis a high-profile track record of mission-critical strategic and operational successes across three decades of service for the Departments of Homeland Security and Defense, the National Security Council, and the U.S. Air Force.
Most recently, Alan was appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff of DHS by the Secretary of Homeland Security to play a key role in the strategic and operational transition of DHS activities to new leadership, and to prioritize the implementation of major national security initiatives to immediately address aviation and homeland security threats.
Prior to his role as Deputy Chief of Staff, Alan served as Chief of Staff at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and as a Senior Counselor to the Secretary of Homeland Security, utilizing his extensive leadership and security expertise to ensure best in class execution of the DHS’s mission across the many agencies accountable to Homeland Security for services essential to the nation’s protection, including aviation security, counterterrorism, immigration enforcement, and the safety of our national leaders. Within these roles, he was recognized by the President of the United States for leadership in DHS & TSA in addressing national aviation security challenges.
Alan also served in the U.S. Air Force for almost 28 years in a variety of air base security and law enforcement capacities. Most notably, he served as Deputy Director of the DoD’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office, and in high profile roles as Chief of Security Forces for Air Combat Command, Deployed Group Commander in Iraq and Kuwait, and as a Director in National Security Council Press in the Executive Office of the President, and many others.
Alan graduated with High Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara and earned a Master of Public Administration from Troy State University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and a distinguished graduate of the National War College and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
